Anton Bruckner: String Quintet in F Major
On September 4, 2024, Anton Bruckner would have been 200 years old. On this occasion, the Fernwood String Quartet, with guest Oana Potur on 2nd viola, is going to perform Bruckner’s famous String Quintet in F Major, his only major work for chamber music. This wonderful music - less ‘bulky’ than his symphonies, but still showing off the essence of his composition techniques - was written in 1878/79, in between his 5th and 6th symphonies.

In our summer 2022 program, the Fernwood String Quartet will present Hugo Wolf’s boysterous ‘Italian Serenade’ and Robert Schumann’s exuberant second string quartet op 41/2, before it moves from the 19th to the 20th century with Serguei Prokofiev’s neo-classical, emotionally intense first string quartet op. 50.

The Fernwood Quartet will return to the University Club of Winter Park with a program of romantic and early modern composers.
Fernwood at Timucua
The Fernwood String Quartet is back at Timucua with a program around Felix Mendelssohn’s passionate string quartet op 13 in A Minor and Dmitri Shostakovich’s short and intense string quartet #7.
We’re playing two shows, one at 7pm, another one at 8:30pm.

Death of Ivan Ilych
Members of the Fernwood Quartet will participate in this Opera Orlando production of a one-act chamber opera composed by John Young. Shows on Feb 19/7:30pm, and Feb 21/5pm.
Central Florida Composers Forum Concert
The program promises to be a buffet of styles and moods from some of the best known composers living and working in the Orlando area. Alex Burtzos’s OMAHA (all the things you could be you are you were) is a piece about memories - their creation, retention, and ultimate dissolution. Troy Gifford’s Lumina is a lyrical and gorgeous serenade. Charlie Griffin’s Billing’s Portrait pays tribute to the father of the American choral tradition in a set that reimagines three of William Billings’ best known pieces, including the fiery Let Tyrants Shake.

This program will juxtapose music by W. A. Mozart with works by Frederic Voorn. The Fernwood Quartet will start with Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue in C Minor K 546, followed by Frederic Voorn’s String Quartet. For the second half of the program, the composer will join the quartet on the piano and perform a movement of Voorn’s own piano concerto. The program will conclude with Mozart’s own arrangement for piano and string quartet of his famous piano concerto K 414 in A Major.

Air from another Planet
Together with the wonderful soprano Samantha Barnes Daniel, we played Arnold Schoenberg's String Quartet No. 2 in F♯ minor, Op. 10 (1908). In this work, where Schoenberg finally breaks with classical tonality, the quartet is joined by a soprano in the final two movements.
The concert opened with Mozart's String Quartet in d Minor, K 421.
